"BluefishRx has allowed me to streamline the process of prescription writing in my practice. Since I started working with a nurse practitioner at my busy rural clinic it was difficult for both of us to keep track of each other's patients. By using BluefishRx we can now synchronize our PDA's at any time and I am able to have all the demographic data and therapeutic profile of any of her patients and so is she, avoiding duplication of prescriptions or potentially dangerous drug interactions. All we have to do is place both our PDA's pointing to each other and beam the information wirelessly through the infrared port just by one stroke of my stylus. It is just that easy!!!!! There is no more pulling old charts or calls to the pharmacies to get a medication profile of any given patient. Consider what I call "The Poor Man's EMR" for a small group practice of 1-4 MDs. I currently use a paper template I designed (you can download it for free on aafp.org) in conjunction with BluefishRx on a Palm Tungsten T. My front desk people have medic on their computer for scheduling and billing, but my Palm HAS NO NETWORK REQUIREMENT. I bought the palm, downloaded the software for BluefishRx, plugged the Bluetooth printer adaptor into the HP inkjet port and started prescribing through walls. What will they think of next?!?! I purchased a Bluetooth printer adaptor for $150, a clunky old HP inkjet printer for $100, the palm for $350, the software for prescription writing BluefishRx for $80 and $80 for 1000 sheets of protected printer/prescription paper and VOILA I have a wireless prescription writer for under $1000. I don't have to maintain a network nor do I have to worry about power outages. If I lose power, my palm still works and I can access my patient's med list. I back up my palm at the end of each day to my laptop at work and then again on my home computer where it charges overnight. I document each patient encounter using my paper template and then prescribe medicine using BluefishRx. Moreover, bluefish has a sweet ICD-9 and CPT program for extra $$ (updated quarterly i believe) with an exceptional search engine. I love what this program can do so far. I am not invested in this company nor do I receive kickbacks. But for 1000 bucks or less, I have a chimeric chart that gives me many of the benefits of an EMR without the cost or frustration. For small offices, I think this setup wins. Good luck.
